Skutari Lake
For
ornithologists, Skutari Lake is the most important bird sanctuary;
for anglers it is one of the best fishing grounds, for engineers it
is one of the biggest natural fresh water reservoir in the region;
and for nature lovers it is simply an experience. This national park
could easily be the scenery for a Hollywood movie like Jurassic
Park: cone shaped mountains seem to rise out of the water with
thousands of white and yellow water lilies crowding the surface, as
the light changes almost by the hour.
Skutari
Lake is the youngest among the national parks in Montenegro. It was
established in 1983. There are 39 different kinds of fish and 264
species of birds registered here. The lake is one of the last
hideaways for pelicans. The underwater springs are a geological
specialty, which are up to 60 meters below the surface and also way
below sea level.
